Why Certain Yelp Reviews Are Not Recommended?

Business owners have a decent chance to spend some time understanding their Yelp reviews. Digital PR is getting more important for the companies. For those who are not aware of the Yelp’s ‘Not Currently Recommended’ section – just scroll down to the bottom of the business page, there you will see light gray text saying that “XYZ and other reviewers are not currently recommended”.
Filtered Yelp Review Section:
The “not recommended Yelp reviews” are those that have been filtered out by Yelp and they are not counted. When a Yelp visitor digs deep to read them, then these reviews are harder to find and they also don’t contribute to the Yelp ratings.
As per Yelp’s policy, the new algorithm does not recommend certain type of reviews as they find the flagged reviews as fake ones or biased. Some Yelp reviews got filtered as they reviewer is so much inexperienced. As per Yelp’s policy 25% of all the reviews are not recommended by the algorithm.
So, what actually determines whether a review is flagged by Yelp algorithm?
When you see Yelp reviews, you find that reviews written by people don’t have a single image photo of their own.

Why Yelp does not want you to know?
You can’t look at the user profiles of other users whose review is not recommended as it not clickable.
How to overcome the issue?

  • Never ask customers to write a review on your Yelp page. Yelp’s website can easily determine your current location. The best way to get a review is by sending a follow-up email to the customer asking him how he likes the services.
  • Never ever provide a direct link to your Yelp’s page as Yelp can look at the referring domain name.

What determines whether a Yelp review is filtered?

  • Reviewer has a profile image.
  • Number of friends he has.
  • Number of reviews he has written.
  • Number of photos uploaded.
  • Ratings of the reviews posted.

With this in mind, the analysis below depends on the mean averages of user ratings, and the median averages of photo and friend counts. In each comparison, the first figure will be from the visible reviews, while the second will be from filtered reviews.

Percentage of users with profile images
It can be much easier to find any anonymous user that has not added any profile picture with other user who does not added photo.

  • Plumber: 49% vs 22%
  • Golf Course: 88% vs 60%
  • Restaurant: 71% vs 50%

Number of yelp reviews posted
Number of reviews posted by a Yelp user does appear to significantly impact the visibility of their reviews.

  • Plumber: 7 vs 2
  • Golf Course: 36 vs 2.5
  • Restaurant: 6 vs 1.5

Number of yelp friends
The statistics between the user having friends on Yelp verses the user that has not added any friends on Yelp.

  • Plumber: 0 vs 0
  • Golf Course: 7 vs 0
  • Restaurant: 15.5 vs 2

Solution????
So, if you’re managing a business and you want all of your reviews to show up, the data suggests that you don’t need to target Yelp super users. You just need to encourage your loyal clients to not just write a positive review, but also to take a couple minutes to add a profile image and take and submit a couple photos of your business.
Final words:
A great initiative taken by Yelp to “Not Recommend” certain profiles as they don’t update their profile pictures, they don’t have added friends and their ratings ratio is much lower. So, avoid such mistakes if you want Yelp not to certify you as “Not Recommended” profile.
Hope everything is clearly understood and will be acted upon as directed. Our main Goal must be to get real reviews rather than asking friends to create fake profiles and writing positive reviews. This practice is illegal and should be stopped.
