New Guidelines For Google Reviews

On December 14, 2017, Google has updated its review policy. Why Google has made changes in its policy? Well, according to Google the changes were made to take out a lot of spam Google reviews. The new guidelines include a variety of no’s. What is forbidden in the policy?

  • Hate speech
  • Adult content
  • Confidential information
  • Copyrighted content
  • Illegal content

  • Part of the maps:

The latest Google review guidelines are now considered to be the part of Google Maps not Google My Business.

  • Applicable to all content:

The new policy guidelines will now be applicable to all type of Google content not only reviews. The latest changes will also affect images, videos, Q&A, metadata, tags and ratings.



  • Marketing of drug is banned:

Google has made it clear that the content you upload must not include the sale or marketing of drugs like tobacco, alcohol and gambling, guns and medical devices etc.

  • Avoid nude content:

The latest policy also discourages the nude content. You are not able to promote nudity on the internet.

  • Content on illegal acts:

You can’t write content on illegal acts like human trafficking and rape etc.

  • Content related to terrorists:

According to Google those reviews will also be deleted that includes or promote content related to terrorism.

  • Avoid personal attacks:

Don’t use offensive content in reviews otherwise your review will be removed. Google discourages content that includes personal attacks on others.

  • Avoid bullying:

Google has also banned reviews related to bullying and harassment on Google Maps.

  • Ex-employees reviews:

Google has also made it clear that ex-employees are not allowed to do negative reviews. These employees are not allowed to put anything negative about their previous company.


  • Only write honest reviews:

Google latest policies also include honest experiences; those who have shared fake reviews will be removed by Google. Google has also removed one section that states that “If you’re a business owner, don’t set up review stations or kiosks at your place of business just to ask for reviews written at your place of business”.

  • Confidential things are not allowed:

Google has also added a section where it is mentioned that private and confidential things are not allowed.
Final words:
Google latest policy guidelines are built to better the overall review system. If you follow the above mentioned guidelines while writing reviews, then your review will not be deleted by Google.
